Rain Scott Acoma Infinity Rim Origami Bowl Native American Baskets
Rain Scott, from Acoma Pueblo, makes baskets from folded paper, origami style. While his technique is new and innovative, he pays tribute to the traditions of his people both in form (olla) and in color/pattern. The black and white of this bowl is reminiscent of contemporary as well as ancient Acoma pots.
The term infinity rim refers to the way the rim of the bowl curves inward, rather than ending in a flat lip. The inward curve lends a depth and dimensionality not present in traditional shapes. Frederica Antonio, a contemporary potter from Scott’s home village of Acoma is known for innovating this style of rim.
Note: the folded paper, made from card stock, creates a rigid form, so this vessel will keep its shape and should allay any concerns about fragility of the vessel.
Basket is 3 1/2 inches high x 4 1/2 inches diameter at its widest.
