Shane Perley-Dutcher is a multi-media artist from the Neqotkuk Wolasqiyik (Tobique First Nation) in New Brunswick, Canada. He is the founder of Aduksis Jewellery Deisigns. Shane learned traditional basket making, but has expanded into weaving metal baskets, as seen here. Read about the artist here.
This sterling silver and copper basket is in the shape of an acorn, a very traditional design among Wabanaki basket makers. The basket includes smooth, shiny metal, as well as hammered metals for a pebbly texture. The artist has broken new, fertile ground with his use of metals in place of traditional black ash and sweetgrass baskets.
The hammered silver cover is topped with an exquisite finial in the shape of a ring.
Basket is 3 1/4 inches high (4 1/4 inches including finial) x 3 inches in diameter. It comes with a black ash ring to allow the basket to stand.
