Native American Baskets Rain Scott Avanyu Vessel
Rain Scott, from Acoma Pueblo, makes baskets from folded paper, origami style. While his technique is new and innovative, he pays tribute to the traditions of his people both in form (olla) and in theme (Avanyu). This basket is made from paper with a glimmery bronze as well as a bright white.
Several turquoise cabochons (often associated with female energy) adorn the shape of the Avanyu (legendary water snake), adding yet another touch of color as well as use of traditional material.
Note: the folded paper, made from card stock, creates a rigid form, so this vessel will keep its shape and should allay any concerns about fragility of the vessel.
Basket is 12 inches high including feathers; 6 1/4 inches diameter at its widest.
