Zuni Fetishes Gilbert Lonjose Soapstone Ram
The carver used a vintage style to represent the ram, while using a striking piece of Soapstone with Dendrite, which are delicately branched black minerals (typically manganese) that moved through rock fractures with the help of water movement. Sometimes Dendrite is incorrectly called “fossilized Dendrite fern” because the mineral pattern looks like fern. The Zuni fetish also has inlaid turquoise eyes and decorative dots.
