In addition to weaving black ash baskets, Pam Cunnigham also works with hand-dyed wool. This charming basket is modeled after a makuk, which was used by Native American tribes to collect the sweet sap of the maple tree; this is a miniature version of the traditional design.
The double-curve design of the applique is also traditional to the Wabanaki tries.
