Rain Scott, from Acoma Pueblo, makes baskets from folded paper. While his technique is new and innovative, he pays tribute to the traditions of his people both in form (olla) and in theme (feathered adornment). This basket is made from a metallic colored bronze paper.
As is sometimes the case with artwork, the photographs do not do justice to the shimmery nature of the metallic colored folded paper.
The vessel has five turquoise cabochons on opposing sides, and the top is adorned with seven beautifully matched, colorful parrot feathers.
Basket is 17 1/2 inches high including feathers; 6 inches diameter at its widest.
