Fish rock turtle

A stylized turtle by Zuni’s Joe Espino. Carved from fish rock, the flat turtle with arrowhead designs on its shell is reminiscent of Turtle Island, or the turtle supporting Mother Earth on its back, a legend common to many tribes. Inlaid turquoise on the back and eyes.
