Walrus tusk with scrimshaw
$1,400.00
This walrus tusk was decorated with a hunting scene by Wilbur Walluk (1928 – 1968), an Inupiaq artist from Shishmaref. Walluk made detailed black and white drawings as well as scrimshaw items.
This tusk depicts a hunter with his sled dog team hunting a standing polar bear. On the reverse side is a kayak leaving camp. There is a hole near the center of the reverse side that probably held a stand at one time.
Tusk is approximately 15″ long; 1 3/4″ at its widest; 1 1/8″ at its deepest
