Vintage Eskimo Goose
This goose, carved from walrus tusk, rests in a grass nest with sealskin bottom. In the nest are two small eggs. Dating from the last quarter of the 20th century, the goose is adorned with scrimshaw eyes, mouth, wing tips, and feet.
This is a very interesting period carving; the grass and sealskin nest are uncommon features among Alaskan Eskimo walrus tusk carvings.
