This is a very attractive and interesting birch bark basket made and signed by Penobscot artist Richard Love. Its hexagonal shape is rather uncommon in birch bark baskets, and the use of pyrography to make surface designs is far less common then scratching the surface to reveal the color below.
Designs include the traditional Wabanaki double curve design, willow leaves, shaman-like figures, and other geometric shapes.
Each side measures approximately 7 1/2 inches; container is 4 inches high.
