Clara Keezer Large Round Passamaquoddy Basket

Out of a  New York state basket collection comes this vivid red round basket by NEA National Heritage Fellow Clara Keezer. Keezer was one of the long-time Wabanaki who kept the art of basket making alive, making it possible for the Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance to create an apprenticeship program for younger weaver.

The colors of this basket remain vivid, and the braided sweetgrass looks fresh. This basket is much larger than most of Keezer’s baskets we’ve handled. The braided sweetgrass woven through cylindrical ash shapes is a striking design. The curls on the cover add to the overall look and interest.

The price of this basket is $1,600. It is currently on hold.

9 inches diameter x 8 1/2 inches high, including finial.
