This large basket has a wonderful presence, with braided sweetgrass contrasting beautifully with black ash splints.
Deborah Brooks continues to make traditional Wabanaki baskets with a lot of braided sweetgrass. Deborah’s mother, Mary Gabriel, was known for this same characteristic, but few Wabanaki weavers today use braided sweetgrass extensively. We are grateful for Deborah’s continued use of this material, as it helps to perpetuate a cultural tradition.
Ms. Brooks also continues to use the braided sweetgrass “frog” handle her mother was known for.
Basket is 11 inches in diameter x 10 inches high including handle.
