Wooden Eskimo-Inuit Pipe pre-1950s
An interesting example of an item that was made for private use that was purchased in Alaska by a temporary resident. We believe the pipe had been in use for some time before it was sold by the owner. The pipe does draw from the tip to the old ivory bowl. It is held together by a leather strip, likely caribou.
9 3/8 inches x 7/8 inch wide x 1 1/2 inches high.
This item, along with many more, came out of the collection of the late Russell McLaughlin. Mr. McLaughlin spent several years in Alaska in the early 1950s, where he collected hundreds of pieces of Eskimo/Inuit artwork and artifacts.
