Wabanaki Baskets Penobscot Theresa Secord Sewing Basket
Wabanaki Baskets Penobscot Theresa Secord Sewing Basket
Theresa Secord was the founding director of the Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance. Working with members of the four Wabanaki nations, she led the resurrection in Wabanaki basket making. She is an accomplished weaver in her own right, often using forms and/or designs made by her grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and other relatives. Her skills as a weaver are evident in this sewing basket.
This is simply a magnificent basket. Its size makes it an imposing presence, and the cedar splints compliment the natural ash and braided sweetgras to create a warm and very pleasing earthy palette. The pin cushion and needle holder are an added bonus.
10 inches in diameter x 6 1/2 inches high, including finial.
This basket, woven in 2006, has been kept in pristine condition and looks new.
