Penobscot Butch Phillips Etched Birch Bark Canoe
Penobscot Butch Phillips Etched Birch Bark Canoe
Penobscot artist Butch Phillips makes canoes and other items from birch bark. This canoe is a fine example of his work, with its fine craftsmanship as well as etched design.
Phillips’ canoe is etched with traditional Wabanaki designs, including double curves, willow leaves (incorrectly referred to as fleur-de-lis previously), and triangles. The double curves and other shapes have four sides, referring to the four tribes of the Wabanaki confederacy: Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, Micmac, and Maliseet.
Wooden paddles and fishing spear included.
28 3/4 inches long x 5 1/2 inches at its widest x 3 1/8 inches high, not including stand
The canoe is unsigned. We purchased it directly from Mr. Phillips and will provide a certificate of authenticity.
