Vintage Alaskan Native Art Yup’ik Eskimo Woven Dance Fans

Eskimo peoples, particularly the Yup’ik, use fans in their traditional narrative dances. This pair of dance fans, probably dating from the 4th quarter of the 20th century, incorporate traditional materials: a woven section with natural and colored grasses. A 20th century touch is the delicate yarn woven around the edge of the leather.

Fans are each approximately 14 inches across and 13 inches high.
