Ash and sweetgrass basket with black stripes

This is a stunning basket, woven by Clare Gabriel, daughter of Mary Mitchell Gabriel and sister of Sylvia Gabriel, in 2003. The cover is loaded with braided sweetgrass, with highlights of natural and black ash.

The design is similar to acorn baskets, but is much taller than any acorns we have seen. In addition, it has a flat bottom, so it stands easily, unlike most acorn baskets.
