Sam Dimmick Composition
A powerful sculpture carved primarily from fossilized walrus jawbone, with fresh and fossil walrus tusk as well as baleen. Animals include a bear head, a narwhal, and a bowhead whale.
Because of their denseness and hardness, fossilized walrus jawbones were sometimes used as hammers, with one section of the jaw broken off. Dimmick has taken advantage of the broken jaw to add a stark white bowhead whale (fresh walrus tusk), with a transition of dark old ivory between the fresh ivory and the brown bone.
Inlay of very dark baleen dot the sculpture in various places. The underside of the sculpture shows the indentations where the teeth were.
10 inches long x 7 1/4 inches wide x 4 inches high
