Sam Dimmick Carved Walrus Tusk

This male walrus tusk is carved with all manner of creatures: an eagle, a whale, a walrus, and a salmon. Dimmick’s carved tusk is reminiscent of the Nunivak Island carved tusks of the early to mid-20th century in that the creatures morph into each other in a seemingly random way, yet in an aesthetically pleasing design. All eyes are inlaid baleen.
