Sam Dimmick Bone Bear with Walrus Tusk Companions
This walrus head was carved from the mineralized jawbone of a very large walrus. The bear is carved into the jawbone itself, while the animals on the side (smaller bears, bowhead whale, walruses) are carved from walrus tusk. All have eyes of inlaid baleen. Companion animals are placed in seemingly upside-down positions, a nod to early to mid-20th century tusk carvings that had similar features.
Because of marine mammal protection laws, this sculpture can only be shipped to a United States address. Some states prohibit importation of any type of ivory, including walrus tusk. Please check your state’s laws before ordering this item.
