Passamaquoddy sewing basket braided sweetgrass Deborah Brooks
$800.00
Deborah Brooks continues to make traditional Wabanaki baskets with a lot of braided sweetgrass. Deborah’s mother, Mary Gabriel, was known for this same characteristic, but few Wabanaki weavers today use braided sweetgrass extensively. We are grateful for Deborah’s continued use of this material, as it helps to perpetuate a cultural tradition.
Ms. Brooks also continues to use the braided sweetgrass “frog” handle her mother was known for.
Wabanaki baskets have been used to store sewing materials and tools since the 1800s, so this basket continues that tradition as well.
Basket is 8 1/2inches in diameter x 3 1/2 inches high
