Artist’s meditation:
“Behold the confidence of the young woman going out into the world. Witness her serenity, her trust in her fellow man. Yet I, her father, buffeted by life: I fear for her. I do not share that confidence. She does not have the cultural anchor her ancestors had; her world is the modern, white world. She trusts implicitly, perhaps naively, in this, while I do not, I cannot. Even so, I secretly admire her faith.”
