Alaskan Eskimo Scrimshaw Dall Sheep
This walrus tusk is adorned with exquisite scrimshaw of five Dall Sheep shown in their native environment. It was purchased in the 1970s from the artist in a remote village in Alaska. The indentation on the reverse side of the tusk was made before the artwork was attached, when the ivory was used as a drill-type fire starter.
