Vintage Native American Shadowbox Pendant with Domed Green Turquoise
Originating from around the 3rd quarter of the 20th century is a silver, arrow-shaped, shadowbox-style pendant with a highly domed green turquoise cabochon surrounded by twisted wire. There is no hallmark on the shadowbox pendant, but its style lends itself to a Navajo origin.
As the name suggests, shadowbox pendants have a central object on display (in this case, gorgeous green turquoise) typically surrounded by high edges to create visual depth through shadows. In the middle of this piece is a turquoise “concho”, a word and motif paying tribute to the conch shells used in ancient Native American jewelry-making.
The shadowbox pendant is 1 ⅓-inches high x 1 ⅛-inches wide; it is also 5/16-inches thick because of the high dome on the stone.
