Vintage Hooper Bay Woven Grass Platter
Vintage Hooper Bay Woven Grass Platter
This grass platter was acquired by a woman who lived in Hooper Bay, Alaska in the early 1970’s. It is woven from both natural color and dyed grasses in the tradition of the Yup’ik weavers from the Hooper Bay area. It is attributed to Nina Rivers, a weaver from the area.
While it is around 40 years old, the grass and the dyes look like new; there is no visible fading and no grass loss.
