Vintage Eskimo Inlaid Knife
$575.00
Vintage Eskimo Inlaid Knife
This beautifully decorated knife is likely of Eskimo origin from the early 20th century. The nucleated concentric circles that are abundant on the light, bone side of the scabbard and on the knife handle were popular among Alaskan Eskimo artists from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Knife blade
Inlaid on the horn side are brass stars set in a resinous background. The knife blade is decorated with stars and geometric shapes.
This is a rare find that is exquisite in spite of the wear. Note that there are numerous parts of inlay, in particular brass stars, and commonly on the dark, horn side of the scabbard. Please examine the photos carefully.
Materials: bone, horn, brass, steel, and other unidentified metal, pigment, resin.
Knife and scabbard combined are 12 inches long x 1 1/2 inches wide; knife is 10 1/2 inches x 1 1/8 inches.
