Passamaquoddy Weaver Theresa Neptune Gardner Wabanaki Curly Bowl Basket

$550.00

From 1995 comes this nicely rounded bowl basket with curls by Theresa Neptune Gardner. Theresa was one of three well-known weaving sisters, the other two being Clara Keezer and Angela Barnes. The sisters maintained the art of basket making among the Wabanaki people of Maine through the years when many others abandoned it. As a result, they became active members of the Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance and lived to see a revival of their beloved art.

The basket has a nice golden patina that the black ash splints develop; sweetgrass adorns the rim. It is in very good condition, and comes with an original identification card from the year it was made.
