Joe Talirunili, resident of Povungnituk, was known for his rough yet evocative descriptions of boats full of figures, and for owls. This owl, carved from hard, dense basalt is primitive in execution, but full of spirit. It is a fine example of his work.
There appears to be some resin on the bottom and side of one of the feet, not generally visible.
