This is an endearingly charming, whimsical basket by Mi’kmaq maker M. Jerome. Created in 2004, it has been kept in impeccable condition by a collector in New York.
While Wabanaki baskets made in shapes such as cakes, flags, and more were more common in the mid 20th century, they are uncommon and difficult to find in the 21st century.
Note that this is equivalent to two baskets plus the lid. The pastel-shade flowers are cloth and appear to be commercially made.
