Sarah Sockbasen, a young Penobscot basketmaker, has re-created a purse basket based on one held in her family for generations. Curlicue weave, sweetgrass and ash handles. This is an extremely charming piece: it is usable, but for conservation purposes, we would not recommend it for every day use. The rich brown tones and subtle black dyes contrast beautifully with the natural colored ash. Basket is 4 3/4" diameter x 6 3/4" including handle x 3 1/4" deep This is a special order item.
This charming basket, which lays on its side (the bottom is not flat) has a continuous weave spiraling up from the bottom, representing ever-present nature. Under the lid of the basket is a turtle, and inside is a sweetgrass prayer braid. 2 1/2" high (not including loop) x 2 1/8" diameter
