ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I believe in the importance of objects and their power to relay narratives.
In my work I am not only speaking about cultural heritage and significance but I am also exploring the relationships between man and nature.
I am very interested in creating harmony with contradicting materials. I primarily use steel, pewter and natural materials such as deer hair, porcupine quills, and leather. By intermingling contemporary and traditional materials, I am exploring how traditional culture and knowledge can thrive in a contemporary world. Steel gives a heavy visual/conceptual weight and is lightened by graceful rabbit fur—permanence is countered by impermanence, black is countered by vibrant color.
