This delightful purse has a beautiful combination of colors and a sweetgrass handle. Basket purses are a traditional form of fancy baskets from the Wabanaki tribes. While heavier forms of carrying baskets were made for hundreds of years, fancy purses date back to the mid 1800s when baskets were made for the tourist trade in wealthy Maine seaside resorts.
Gal (Frances) Frey has won awards for her work at the Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair and Market as well as the Santa Fe Indian Market (SWAIA).
