This carving was inspired by Ame Papatsie, an Inuk artist from Pangnirtung, in Nunavut, who works in two dimensions. Alec Lawson Tuckatuck has created two sculptures in one: an inukshuk on one side, and a man on the other. The contrast between the limestone and the serpentine make this a very striking piece. The shape of the inukshuk, which is based on the human form, is reflected in the shape of the man. The seemingly static pose of the man is brought to life by the energetic, organic lines going from front to back.
