A lovely mask carved from basaltic stone by Inuit artist Billy Merkosak, of Pond Inlet, Nunavut. Its rough edges evoke ancient times. The facial marks represent tattoos, a common practice among the Inuit of Northern Canada, mostly prevalent among females.
The mask is mounted on a small base with a steel rod. The mask is removable from the base.
Mask is 11 1/2 inches high x 6 inches wide x 4 inches deep. Mounted on the base, the height is 14 1/2 inches.
