Weeping Frog Rattle Makah Nootka Northwest Coast Art

$1,550.00

Weeping Frog Rattle

This wooden rattle has a wonderful face and a rich patina. An old label identifies it as “Makah Nuu-cha-Nulth ca. 1920’s.” The Nuu-cha-nulth people are often referred to as Nootka. Note the two smaller frogs emerging as tears from the eyes, marking this as a weeping frog, indeed.

While the label identifies it as 1920s, the patina, the style, and the age cracks in the wood hint at possible earlier origin.

Rattle, not including the custom-made base, is 10 in. high x 4 1/2 in. wide x 4 1/4 in. deep

This item is on hold at the price of $1,550 US.
