Vintage ivory hunter with scrimshaw

$650.00

Max Ungarook was an Inupiat from Barrow, Alaska. This vintage figure, which probably dates from the 1950’s or 1960’s is carved from a whale tooth. Delicate scrimshaw adds life to the carving.

The base of the carving shows the exterior of the tooth, which has some age to it, based on the darker color. The figure probably held a fishing implement in his hand, which now is left with an empty hole.
