Sedna

Jimmy Petooloosie of Cape Dorset and Iqaluit has carved a Sedna with a long flowing mane of hair. The negative space created by the hair adds to the appeal.

Difficult to see in the picture are the hands, which are missing fingers or finger tips, a feature that is often used to represent Sedna’s fate at the hands of her father.

Carved from serpentine that is primarily dark green with beautiful lighter highlights.
