This is a charming sculpture by Etulu Etidloie of Cape Dorset. Well known for his loon sculptures, this one stands out in a couple of ways. First, it depicts a loon on its nest, protecting its egg. Second, the loon is much smaller than most of his other loon creations. Nevertheless, it has Etidloie’s characteristic form and markings that have made his loons so beloved by collectors.

Carved from two pieces of serpentine; the loon is a separate piece that simply sits on the base/nest.

Loon and base combined are 6 5/8″ high x 2 1/4″ deep
