Davidee Itulu Scrimshaw
Davidee Itulu, 1929 – 2006, created detailed scrimshaw figures on either walrus tusk or caribou antler. This antler includes human figures, geese, a bear, a ptarmigan, and a walrus. Beautiful detail. Serpentine base.
It’s rare to see Itulu’s scrimshaw on the market. He lived in the community of Kimmirut, known in 1977 by its Anglo name of Lake Harbour.
Bottom of base includes the artist’s name in Inuktitut and Roman as well as the date (77) and Lake Harbour. (I know it’s impossible to read in the photo.)
8 3/4 in. high x 1 1/2 in. wide (base is 2 5/8 in. wide)
