Beaded Alaskan Eskimo Dance Fans

Eskimo peoples, particularly the Yup’ik, use fans in their traditional narrative dances. This pair of dance fans, probably dating from the 4th quarter of the 20th century, incorporate traditional materials as well as contemporary ones: on a base of caribou fur, the maker added red, blue, and green beads, with the centerpiece of a star shape. The arched wooden handles are covered in a blue embroidery-like thread, which also adorns the top of the fur.

Fans are each approximately 7 1/4 inches across and 7 1/2 inches high.

Because these fans contain wildlife materials, they can only be shipped to a U.S. address.
